Chorus Informational Video
Rising 9th grade students can take chorus for one semester (in which case they should register for Vocal Music 1 Mixed Chorus- Beginning)
If a rising 9th grade student wants to take chorus for the whole year they can either
Vocal Music I Concert Choir 9th – 12th Grade Students. No placement test required. 1 Semester
Students may choose to sing 2nd Semester in Intermediate Chorale after completing 1 Semester in Concert Choir. Students who would like to skip levels and start in Intermediate Chorale 1st Semester please contact Ms. Dickens for more information. [email protected]
Vocal Music II- Intermediate Chorale (Treble Choir)- 9th – 12th grade treble singers, (rising 9th grade students, written & performance placement prior to registration is required). Experience in Concert Choir or multiple years’ experience in middle school choir is preferred.
Vocal Music III Capital Pride- Honors Level Chorus 10th - 12th grade students. Placement audition is required. Experience in Concert Choir and/or Women's Chorale is desirable.
Time Commitment for Concert Choir:
September or October - “Informance” at a Performing Arts Boosters meeting
December - Winter Concert (December) 7:00 pm
After School Rehearsal 2:30-5:00 p.m. scheduled one or two days prior to the concert.
If continuing to sing at Intermediate Level 2nd Semester:
February- Singing Valentines during the school day.
March – (Possibly an NCMEA sponsored adjudicated event).
(Possibly a spring trip, optional).
May – Spring Concert 7:00 pm
Dress Rehearsal 2:30-5:00 pm scheduled one or two days prior to the concert.
Concert Attire for Concert Choir:
Students will supply their own concert attire. Semi-formal concert black. Students will share a picture of what they intend to wear with Ms. Dickens so that she can make sure the attire is “formal” enough and school appropriate.
Intermediate Chorale and Capital Pride:
Chorus Uniforms will be purchased, black concert dress or black concert suit and tie.

If a rising 9th grade student wants to take chorus for the whole year they can either
- Register for Vocal Music 1- Mixed Chorus-Beginning level AND contact Ms. Dickens to register for Vocal Music II Intermediate Level for 2nd Semester (no audition video necessary if the Beginning Level is completed 1st Semester.)
OR - Students with significant experience with choral music may choose to complete a placement audition in order to skip the Beginning level chorus (this is rare, but not impossible) and advance immediately to the Intermediate level choir. These students will need to contact Ms. Dickens and submit an audition video. The Intermediate Level Choir is a yearlong choir.
